Higgs particle as a tool

Bogdan Dobrescu

Theoretical Physics Department, Fermilab

The newly-discovered Higgs boson appears to be a manifestation of the field that gives mass to all known elementary particles. Being a spinless elementary particle, the Higgs boson is highly sensitive to the existence of new forms of matter. After presenting a few examples of phenomena that can be probed through the study of this Higgs-like particle, I will blame my enthusiasm on the time spent in the Physics Department at BU.
